Chicken hatching in schools in Southern England provides the opportunity for real life learning as well as creating awe and wonder. The eggs and chicks are a fantastic resource, available to all year groups, inspiring learning in many different curriculum areas. This experience especially promotes many areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, encouraging investigation, interest and care for living things. I’d recommend this as a great learning and socialising experience for the start of the new School Year to enable children to settle in more quickly.
In our Nursery, we are pleased to say that our chicks are doing really well. The children along with the staff have been very excited watching them hatch and grow. The children named each new born chick as they hatched in our Nursery.
